My name is Johnny. I’m an amateur-model on PornHub and data-analyst IRL. In order to do my job well I monitor the market my colleagues and regularly conduct small data studies. In this article I want to share one of the latest.
This research is an overview and is designed to help models better understand the Modelhub platform and trends among colleagues in the genre on this platform. The data used in this study is public, freely available and doesn’t contain personal data of anyone.
The study period covers one month — November 2020.
The objects of research are three categories on the Modelhub site: Gay, Verified couples and Verified models.
Questions that I asked myself and answered using data:
1. How many videos were uploaded to the platform in these categories?
2. What is the total number of views in categories?
3. What is the number of unique models, average age and frequency of video publication?
4. Different ratings. TOP-uploaders, — countries, — categories, — words in titles, — models.
5. What is the video quality, average duration and cost?
6. Distribution of views by day of the week.
Number of uploaded videos in November by category:
Gay: >4800
Verified couples: >7900
Verified models: >5000
Verified couples spent a very active November uploading the most videos among the three categories presented.
Number of views:
Gay: >3.47 M
Verified couples: >6.71 M
Verified models: >25.77 M
Number of unique models and average age:
Gay: over 1300 and 29 years old
Verified couples: over 2000 and 27 years old
Verified models: over 650 and 32 years old
I calculated the number of models separately for each category and didn’t take into account intersections between categories which can be. Note the huge difference in the number of views between the Verified models category and the others. And the difference in the number of unique models. This is cause the category of Verified models is mostly made up of professionals while the other categories presented are full of Amateurs.

Amateur models upload 3 to 4 videos per month (one video per week) on average.

Please note that the categories are selected by the models themselves when uploading the video and cannot be 100% reliable information for describing the content or plot of the video. However this is quite appropriate to describe what kind of porn is being filmed and uploaded.

Gay: 1080 and 720

If you think that you are the only one who doesn’t shoot in 4K I hasten to please you. It’s not so. The most popular format is Full HD.
The average video duration and the average price:
Gay: 7 minutes 10 seconds and $6
Verified couples: 8 minutes 5 seconds and $7
Verified models: 13 minutes 1 second and $10
Price distribution:
Overall the picture in all three categories is very similar. The most popular video price is set in the range of up to $10.
Number of views by the day of the week the video was uploaded:
0 — Monday, 6 — Sunday
The graphs show the total number of views by the day of the week on which it was published. We see that the highest number of views for the Gay category was received by videos that were uploaded on Tuesday and Wednesday, most likely they were shot on the weekend. But models in the other two categories prefer to upload videos closer to the end of the week.
Some conclusions:
- Quality is better than quantity. You can upload a huge amount of content to your page but this will not affect the number of views (and revenue i think) proportionally.
- 4K content is good but not popular yet. It’s enough that you can shoot in HD or Full HD.
- Models posted 3–4 videos per month while professionals post 1–2 videos per week on average.
- The average cost per video ranges from $6–10. It doesn’t make sense to set the price more than $10.
You can make other conclusions for yourself.
